If you don't get a 2:1 or a 2:2 at bare minimum, do you think your time at uni will go to waste, in terms of job prospects?

I am currently at Strathclyde University doing forensic and analytical chemistry. If i don’t attain a 2:1 the job market and PHD programs are severely limited. So in terms of what i want to do, yes i would be very disappointed in myself.
Some of my colleagues however only needed a 2:2 or a simple pass to allow them to take a follow on course in teaching.

I don't think it would be a complete waste if you spent your time building up experience and contacts but it could raise some questions though
