So I need to start taking lessons to finally get my driver's licence. I know that driving in London might turn into a bit of a nightmare, but I have no other choice.

    - Is there an international type of driver's licence I can take? Meaning one that is valid abroad as well?

    - Where do I begin? Simply contact a driving school?

You order your provisional first if you haven't already- you'll need that to show an instructor. And then yes you just phone up a driving school and book lessons. Don't panic about learning in London, plenty of people manage to and instructors are experienced in finding the quieter roads for beginners. Plus if you can master London's roads then others should be easier.

As above, but be warned it can take quite a while for a provisional license to arrive and you can't start until it does - so might be worth ordering it ASAP.

A full UK license will allow you to drive in most countries. Best to check before you travel exactly what the requirements are though, some places may make you jump through certain hoops, adhere to certain laws (e.g. France and their breathalyser rule), or have your license for X years before you're allowed to drive there.
