Movie Madness is an event pitting 64 films against each other in a tournament where only one will triumph (to find out more, click here).
Who will progress to the next round? You decide.

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
The second in the epic space opera that is Star Wars. It is a lot darker and more involving than the first, as Luke Skywalker travels to Dagobah to be trained by Yoda while Darth Vader pursues his friends across the galaxy.

    The Matrix (1999)
Coming at the turn of the 21st century when everyone was concerned with the age of technology, Matrix's subject matter of a human race enslaved by machines and put into a dream world representing our own seemed oddly topical. Combining the Wachowski brothers' penchant for tightly choreographed acrobatic fights and a strong narrative, this dystopian high-tech action thriller grips you from start to finish.

I went with Matrix but as a series in it's entirety, I'd go with Star Wars.

I'd still go with The Matrix, why don't you like the sequels much?

I liked them when I first viewed them. But now...my opinion differs.

As I'm rather bad at articulating my thoughts and TheFlickBrothers channel on youtube does a better job, check out they're "Deeper Analaysis" playist.
In it, the reconstruct the series.

    Difficult, very difficult.
Two iconic movies, the tie-breaker for me is the 'Friday night test'. Which would I be more likely to watch?
    Answer: The Matrix.

I thought it was very difficult as well but even though i only watched star Wars recently(On about May the fourth ) and have not watched Matrix in years i'd rather sit down and watch a Galaxy far far away right now so my vote went that way.

It was a close decision though. :yep:

Maybe we have a chance at a sudden death penalty shoot-out with this one!

We discussed it on the Goodfellas v The Departed poll, which was close for a long time.

We keep the poll open and next vote wins!

We said we'd leave the thread open until we get an extra vote one way or the other then shut it. Was the only fair thing i couold think of tbh.

    any other alternatives?

Comparing Stand alone films I think it has to be The Matrix. Comparing Triologies I'd go with Star Wars but that's not what the vote is!

Your vote must be popular. Matrix has a 7 vote lead atm.

Comparing trilogies Matrix would not even be in the contest!

I prefer Star Wars but like both so won't be upset either way tbh.

I can't believe Matrix is winning. It's a good film but it doesn't deserve to beat any of the original Star Wars films.

It's only got a 6 vote lead and we have 12 hours left of voting. If you quote in some Star Wars fan you know then it could make a comeback.

Share the thread on facebook and get them rushing in! :ahee:

    Any?

Return of the Ewoks was an absolute dud, and the beginning of the end for Lucas.
Episode VI is what stops the original trilogy from being a classic.

I know some people think this about VI but I really don't see what the problem with it is? Just because it had Ewoks playing a major role in it?
