So in the early 2000's it was proclaimed that England had a golden generation and that the England national team was destined for great heights but we know how that turned out.

So I would like to know if you think we could reach another stage where we look to have top top players in every position and actually look convincing in matches. Surely if there was a new golden generation alot of the current players ie Rooney, Gerrard and the likes will not be involved ? Where do you see England finishing in the euro 2016 ?that is if they qualify!

England's team are terrible, it's fans are terrible, it's media are terrible, it's FA is terrible, it's coaching is terrible. No. Even if they were to have another WC team, the media would make sure they do not win. Also, the ineptitude of FA/management would also contribute to yet more mediocrity when it comes to the crunch.

No. The majority of British kids would rather play computer games while working towards the physique of a Christmas pudding than play football in the street/park.

Those that do show talent are so badly coached that the lack the technical abilities to compete against players from other nations.

See: Team GB's performance in the Olympics. Beaten on penalties against a distinctly average South Korean team.

Given time they could possibly do far better.. I'm clinging onto the dream that they'll unite.

Not until we start shipping in the top players from UK + Ireland. Look at the great players we've missed out on down the years. Charles, Law, Best, Hansen, Souness, Keane, Giggs, Bale.

Oh, and we need a proper manager too.

We need a proper footballing philosophy first. Where is our Cruyff? No one there to stand up and tell the others what type of football we are to play.

Its never going to happen, breaking the HNA would not go down well and could break the alliance in IFAB.

On topic: England /the UK could have a 1000 'golden generations' but they will never translate into international success by any measure if the huge structural failures at pretty much every single level of football in this country are addressed.

I think the main problem is how we are trying to adapt to attacking football where in comparison to the big NT's, England's players have no technical ability and so when presented with decent opposition and both teams decide to attack, England will fall short.

Who would you take to euro 16 if you could decide now ?

I think the pundits interpretation of who will line-up for England in 2018 says it all.
