    Hi,

I'm allowed a kettle in my room at university (and bought a small one) but I'm worried it might set off the fire alarm. Anyone have any experience of this?

    Thanks

I had friends who had kettles and toasters, even one with a microwave in halls and none of them had trouble with fire alarms. As long as you don't put it right below your fire alarm you should be fine.

Smoke detectors detect, like the name suggests, smoke. A common kettle releases water vapour which will not affect the smoke detector.

I had a kettle in my halls room this year, and no one had any problem with it. Microwaves might be an issue in the long one, so I'd stay away from them.

All fire alarms aren't smoke detectors though, especially in halls, we had heat detectors.
