Half of spacebar key not working?

Hi,
Just bought a brand new Compaq Presario V4000 laptop off eBay from a reputable seller (100% feedback, lots of sales etc, comes with a 1 yr HP base warranty) and the right half of the spacebar key isn't working. The left half works fine but if you're right handed and use your right thumb to tap the spacebar key while touch typing, it is really annoying. Anyone had this sort of problem before and can they recommend a simple solution as it isn't exactly too technical is it. I wonder if it'll be covered under my warranty... gonna call up tomorrow. Quite annoying actually. The warranty doesn't cover "accidental damage" and how do they determine whether it was my fault or it came damaged?

Is the one side just not responding or is it actually stiff?
Nah it's not the whole thing that's stiff, just the right hand side that won't respond. Left hand side taps fine. The whole thing depresses normally, not like it's stiff or stuck.

Okay, could be one of these.

There could be two sensors/buttons and the one side is damaged

The button is just like that as maybe theres only one senser on one side

I can't see the hinge being damaged if both sides work fine, try contacting the seller or HP, this would be your best way to find out for sure.

Try spilling the oily stuff from a plate of Spagetti.

I had to take half the keys off to clean it away, while being **** scared my £1.6k powerbook was dead. Luckily it was still perfect.

Are you serious? Guilty plagues me. Hopefully it's not a laptop.

Yeah now the whole spacebar came off on my acer laptop, it does not matter though as it looks destroyed enough for me to claim insurance =D
