    Hi,

I have just successfully appealed the award for my daughters, because SFE did not correctly apply the Regulations. During discussion, they stated that my case had been calculated in the same way as all others, so I assume that anyone in similar situation will be affected.

Details: SFE calculate the "household contribution" and then divide it by the number of students in the house. This amount is then deducted from the award for each student. However, they initially, AND WRONGLY, failed to include one of my daughters (5th year med student) in the number of students, so the deduction for my other daughters was too high, and hence the amount awarded was too low.

I strongly recommend anyone with a sibling in receipt of an NHS Bursary get in touch with SFE as soon as possible to review; I did request SFE get in touch with students affected but they have not confirmed that they will do so at this time.

I know it is particularly hard to understand the regulations, but the govt regs are available to download.

Good luck, and remember: persistance pays!!
