Hi, a few weeks ago I posted here about my IB results with which I missed my firm offer (38 HLs - 666) and my insurance offer (32 6 in Music HL, 6 in French HL), because of my 5 in Music HL even though I got a 38 overall.

Now, I have applied to some universities informally through international clearing, being an overseas student, and have received acceptance from University of Nottingham. But Durham, which is my firm, has said that they are not rejected me but making me wait till A levels results day.

I am so torn on what I should do. If I choose Nottingham, I need to apply for halls before 1st August which is way before A levels results day. And in turn, Nottingham might not hold my place till A levels results day. I don't want to lose my place at Nottingham, but I don't want to miss out the chance of going to Durham, even though I'm not guaranteed a place there.

    What should I do?

    Durham, I'm afraid, are ********s.

I've known them do this to applicants time and again - when they say wait til A level results day what they mean is a week or two AFTER that at which point in most cases I've known they will reject you.

Last year they did this to about 50+ clearing applicants - tied them to the university and then sat on the applications for weeks before rejecting almost all of them when all the other places in clearing had gone.

I would not recommend passing up an opportunity of a place somewhere you would like because of a (very very) slim chance of a place at Durham. Phone them up and explain that you no longer want to take up the place and ask them to reject you ASAP. Either they will reject you and you get to take up your place with Nottingham or you will force their hand and they will accept you without any more delays.

Don't play their games - if they can't treat you well then they definitely don't deserve you.

Agree with the above. Durham's behaviour over clearing last year was shameful. Go to Nottingham.

Thank you both! I've just been so confused on what to do.

I feel you should jump at the chance at Nottingham because Durham will just mess you around and you maybe not be able to go to uni at all or you would still be dawning on the thought of Nottingham! You would be stress free also which is a plus, of course its up to you as it's your life but if I was you I would strive at the chance of Nottinghams' offer
