    (Sorry, really needed a rant)

I've been wanting to do the EPQ for ages but my school has just rejected my application. They offer it to approx. 20 students per year and they claim that this year they had quite a lot of applicants; obviously, I was not chosen. Really irritated/upset by this, considering I'm applying to Cambridge and so need all the extra stuff I can possibly get. I was genuinely looking forward to doing the EPQ, and, to add insult to injury, students who've got consistent D/C/B grades this year (currently doing AS) have been allowed to do it on the basis that they need all the support they can get when it comes to uni, whereas I've got straight A grades this year and would've been able to cope with the extra workload.

I've got no idea what to do now as I was going to talk about the EPQ on my personal statement - I've been thinking about it for ages as this kind of independent research project is right up my street. Am I overreacting to this or is the EPQ really worth doing? I'm going to have to really put the summer to good use - looks like I'll be doing extra reading to make up for this.

Anyone been in a similar position? What did you do to compensate for not doing the EPQ?

Don't cry over it - it's not the end of your application to Cambridge. Many people get in to Oxbridge without the EPQ. You are overreacting.

I realise that, but I don't have a huge amount of extracurriculars that are relevant to the course. I was really looking forward to doing the EPQ and genuinely would have enjoyed doing it.
