"So, what would we use a turn in the road for?"
"To turn around?"
"Yes! Aren't you a clever boy! Have a cookie"

(those aren't exactly the words exchanged, but you get my drift)

Anyone else sometimes feel like you're losing the will to live when being taught to drive?

I think the instructors have to act like that.

My instructor said lots of silly stuff like that, but I just laughed and found it funny - like I wouldn't know that the brake is used to slow the car down

My old instructor was really patronising and expected me to be ladylike. When going over show/tell me questions he said that he doesn't usually tell girls this technique...but to remember the tread depth think of when you have sex (16..1.6).
And when I failed my test all the way back he talked though what he did. 'clutch down, change down to second, clutch slowly back up as gas goes down. A smooth gear change. mirror, signal, mirror, move.' Etc all the way back. Considering I had failed on my manuvours and not handling and control of the car it was stupidly patronising. He knew I have a smooth style of driving.

My instructor now is better I had a few lessons with him where I was just doing everthing I would be asked to do on a test so he knew what level I was at. Now he won't talk about my driving unless I'm too close to something or going too fast. I don't get asked any stupid questions and I get to control what I practice in my lessons.
