Today I finally gave up my lifelong aim to be the greatest pioneer in the history of mankind, to be the first person to discover concrete evidence for the existence of the elusive mole people. It was a very difficult decision to make. Then I got thinking, perhaps it is for the best that they remain hidden away from us in the depths of the earth... who knows what forbidden knowledge they guard over? Who knows what cosmic horror they keep imprisoned in the very core of our planet? They have existed since before existence itself, protecting the infinite incarnations of the universe and the life for which it is a womb that never births. What they are protecting us from, we do not know. Though we will inevitably find out. It has happened innumerable times before. It is what brings about the fading of all light and the retreat of all being into a darkness from which a new universe is awakened, tired and weakened by embryonic visions of its own demise. We are but shadows of a greater consciousness lost in the diminishing cycle of birth and rebirth. However, the mole people do not diminish, they are permanent and unchanging and will remain long after the cycle reaches maximum fatigue and cannot sustain itself any longer.
We humans must know know peace and happiness before we know the mole people's secret, for our time is short. We are mayflies brought together in a brief serenade. Our wings gradually wither, and our dance will end with a lifeless plummet into the waters below, a necropolis of spindly forms. And soon the waters drain away and there is nothing.
Have you done any of these?
