I am about to begin a training programme with a franchised Vauxhall dealership in a few days. I was curious as to weather anyone on the forum has worked in this field and what to expect from it?

Generally how much is earned through commission as my base is not substantial and what are the growth opportunities within this role.

    Any other feedback is welcome.

I doubt you'd find many who has done this especially as these days most places will require you to be above 25.

I did this around 20 years ago though the cars sold were Saabs and isn't a high volume dealership. They had a flat 1.25% commission for every car and it was based upon the final sale price (you would be told how low is the lowest a car can be sold for)

For Vauxhalls, it depends a lot on the dealership as GM doesn't regulate this aspect. Some dealers will have a 1-2%, some will have a flat commission rate of £50-100 per car but will require you to sell a basket of cars, therefore you can't just sell 1 model only and usually will have a target of how many cars you must sell each month. There are some that the commission is by the car type, therefore if you can sell a slow seller for example then the commission will be higher.

As a whole once fully trained be prepared to sell upwards of 250 cars per annum otherwise you'd be given a P45. You will also get some commission if you push for the extended warranties or one of the many financing schemes, won't be a lot but it all adds up.

It is not unusual that these jobs come with very minimal basic salary.
