    Hi everybody!

I'm a french student :france: . I need some help :please::please: to translate the expression "personne de confiance", in english with a translation word for word, it gives "person of trust".
Of course, i've already searched on google, but it's not good.:google:
I have to prepare a clinical case with questions of research.

A person of trust is someone who accompanies (follows) the patient during the medical consultation with the practitioner (physician), and can help the patient to take decision about his health. If the patient is not able to give his choices, the practitioner asks what the patient would choose.

    Thank you for your help!

To me, that sounds similar to someone having 'medical power of attorney'. In general, without a specific individual this falls by default to the closest relative, called the 'next of kin'.

    Hi!
thank you for your answer. The "person of trust" doesn't really have a 'medical power of attorney' in the law.
The patient signs a paper in which he (or she) designs his (or her) "person of trust" at the admission to the hospital but it's not an attorney.
If the patient is not able to express his (or her) volition, the "person of trust" is counselled but only for know what the patient would like; finally it's the doctor who takes the decision.

The "person of trust" is often a relative (husband, wife, son daughter, niece, nephew...) .

I don't think that "next to kin" is a good translation for "person of trust".

    Thank you

    I'm waiting for other propositions!

    Hello!

I found by chance the translation:
    personne de confiance= surrogate.
Can you confirm the role of a surrogate?

    Thank you!
