I'm a bit confused about how adjustment works. I'm holding an offer from Queen Mary which I got through Extra but now I want to go to a different university. When I go onto the UCAS website it says that adjustment is available for those who have met and exceeded their conditions. What I'm confused about is would I be able to use adjustment if I met the conditions but did not exceed it? Thanks.

No, you must exceed the conditions, not just meet them.

No, you wouldn't. You need to have exceeded the conditions as well.

So if I want to go to a different university I would have to go through clearing? I thought you can only use clearing if you do not hold an offer?

That's correct. You have to let go of your firm offer and enter clearing. This takes time and the good places may have gone by the time you have been released into clearing. If you definitely don't want to go to your firm, contact them now and get it sorted in advance. Ucas goes into lockdown a week before results day, so you won't be able to do anything then. Just be very sure.

When I go on ucas it doesn't show anything that would allow me to let the offer go. I would have to contact QM if I don't want to go there?

Yes. Ucas has nothing to do with it. They are merely the go-between. This is something you have to talk to the university about.

The thing is I am bit worried. I am hoping to get ABB but what if I don't get a place through clearing? Ideally I would like to get into Surrey for law.

If you don't get a place in clearing, then you will have to take a year out and reassess. There is no magic wand.

Then tough; you don't go to uni this year and you'll have to reapply for next year.
