    Hello everybody,

Apparently I am an international student and being awarded the ESRC studentship (full award) to study a course 1+3 (MSc plus 3 years PhD). I have been emailing the respective staff before accepting the studentship but yet to receive response. The reason is that I am worried about the shortfall between international tuition fee and Home/EU fees (roughly 10000 pounds).

I just want to ask if anyone has experience with this and could share with me (or refer me to any sources of information). My question is if my School of Economics would cover the shortfall, or I have to pay it myself (hence to proceed my Tier 4 Visa).

    Many thanks.

    Hi there,

The ESRC awards are typically only for home fees, UNLESS you are in the Economics pathway, in which case most DTCs allow international students to be awarded the full award. I think technically they waive the difference, but in anycase, the student doesn't pay any fees.

    See here: http://www.esrc.ac.uk/funding-and-gu...s/eligibility/

Worth checking with your DTC to be sure, but you should be fine.

I am in the same position, incidentally.

Typically, international students are not eligibleto apply for/accept ESRC awards, UNLESS you are in the Economics pathway, in which case most DTCs allow international students to receieve a full funding award. I think technically they waive the difference between home and overseas, but in anycase, the student doesn't pay the difference.

You should double check with your DTC to be sure.

Incidentally, I am in the same position.
