VM266 - Motion on Journalistic Freedom in Egypt, TSR Green PartyThis House condemns the recent ruling in Egypt to imprison three Al-Jazeera journalists on charges of supporting terrorism. They are not British Citizens, why should we intervene. When we want to keep good diplomatic relations with Egypt. This country has enough problems as it is.

So you feel we should bury our head in the sand while such atrocities plague the Arab world?

The motion calls for a full pardon instead of calling for a fair trial. The trial needs to be conducted before any pardon is given. If the fair trial did establish they were terrorists, do they still deserve to be pardoned the basis they are journalists?

If such a trial were fair it would be dismissed instantly as frivolous. Only a full pardon is appropriate. And besides, that isn't why you're against the motion, your opposition stems from the fact it's not happening in the UK.

You are contradicting yourself. You are criticising the Egyptian government for making the assumption the journalists are terrorists. Yet at the same time you are making the assumption they are not terrorists and call for them to be pardoned.Talk about double standards. UKIP wants a fair process. We believe a fair trial will reach the correct verdict. We do not want to pass judgement on the journalists. We will allow a jury to do that in a scrutinised trial.
