I was wondering which course, either English or Sociology, is seen as being more respectable or reputable? Which one is seen as more difficult? I understand that the measure of difficulty is quite contentious - but I'm just looking for some opinions.

Not that's it's very important, but English (certainly literature) is more reputable than Sociology, purely because it's a traditional subject.

Like the poster above said, English (Lit) is seen as the more traditional subject and hence 'harder' by a lot of people. However, if you're choosing which uni course to do, it's more important to choose the one you like more! A first in sociology would look better than 2:3 in. Eng Lit to some employers!
