It's not especially likely to be serious. Breast cancer is a disease of the middle aged.

Good idea with the support line.

our mum had cancer at 29 so it runs in the family.

She would rather die of cancer than get a check up?! Please knock some sense into her! :frown:
has she got any other symptoms?

"The signs and symptoms of breast cancer include, a lump or thickening in the breast or armpit area, changes in the appearance and texture of the skin, for example, redness or dimpling, noticeable changes in the nipple, for example, changes in the position or direction, a rash or discharge, change in the shape or size of the breast that may indicate the presence of a lump, and also any pain or discomfort that is unusual or new. However, pain alone without any of the other symptoms isn’t likely to be due to breast cancer," (CancerHelp UK, 2002).

she should go to her doctor as soon as possible.
afaik, she may be refferred for a mammography. the breast unit where they do them at my local hospital is like a one-stop shop, so you get your mammography & results/diagnosis on the same day, so i should imagine that's the same everywhere.

hope that helps?

i didn't make it clear our mum DIED at 29 of cancer so she is scared. Don't critise her for being scared, please.

I had a lump and i went to the Doctors and basically they will just check it out and see what they think it feels like... if it feels harmless e.g. a lymph node then they will probably refer you to a specialist just to make sure or they might just leave it and tell you to come back if it changes at all e.g. gets bigger etc. If it feels like something more then they will refer you to a specialist who may so certain tests such as a biopsy or something which might just involve a needle being inserted to get some of the tissue to be examined, or an x-ray such as an ultrasound just so they can take a closer look. You can go with her for support my boyfriend came with me they don't mind at all they are really supportive and kind about it, hope she goes and good luck  x
