VM267 - Commemorating the Role of Women in the First World War, The Hom. barnetlad MPThis House believes that the role of women in the First World War, which indirectly was an early step towards women being given the vote and other equality with men, should be recognised alongside that of the men who fought and died.

As part of this recognition, this House supports the proposal to commemorate the centenary of the death of Edith Cavell, the Norfolk nurse who helped hundreds of Allied troops escape from German-occupied Belgium, with a commemorative £2 coin in 2015, and that the Government should support commemorations in her home community in Norfolk.
