So, I'm moving into my new flat next week, and apparently it only has cable internet.
How can i go about this so that I can use my ipad for example? Would I have to buy a router or something?

I know absolutely nothing about connections/computers!

    Thanks in advance

Do you mean cable like Virgin Media or ethernet? If it's like student halls with an ethernet plug, you can set up your laptop to run an ad hoc wireless network, and then you'll be able to use your phone/tablet. If it's cable internet (i.e Virgin Media) you'll need a cable router, usually Virgin will provide one or there may be one left by the previous tenant.

If the connection has ethernet (one of these - more likely to be a wall plug) then you can ether get a USB to ethernet adaptor (such as this ) or a small device which can broadcast a wifi signal (such as this one) or this expensive apple one (I just found these on the web so there may be better models)

If you mean cable internet as in through an ISP such as virgin then you will need a cable wifi router (http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Networki...outers---Cable) - your ISP may provide one
