Cant have contact lenses

:frown: Basically my mum wont pay for me to have contact lenses. I really do need them, not being able to see disrupts my life and i try and avoid things incase i have to look at something. I know it sounds stupid, and you'll probably just say 'wear glasses' but i cant wear glasses i just dont get on with them, i know that also sounds stupid but just take my word on it.
So i know you guys arent gonna be able to do anything about it but i just fell so hopelessly blind all the time, i really need contact lenses!!! :frown:

(btw, as for the anon, ppl know me on here  )

i know how you must feel. i really wanted contacts so in the end i just had to pay for them myself. is there any way you can pay yourself? i pay 14.00 each month for monthleys.

How old are you? You >will< get used to glasses after a while if you have to wear them to see. I did, even though I didn't wear them for years. And you can always buy your own contacts, they aren't expensive. Have you tried them before? If you don't get on with glasses you may well not get on with contacts either.

Get a job and pay for them yourself? You can get them for £11 a month from Boots.
contacts will be £15 a month tops. go to specsavers and spend £30 on a 6 month supply. sorted.

As people have said, contacts are fairly cheap (Unless you are awkward like me and have extended wear torics, but even they are only £14 a month when bought online.

And as supertramp said, its harder to get used to contacts than glasses, and you still need glasses anyway. If you take them out each day you need them for then (Nothing other than extended wear's last all day (ie. 9am-midnight) without drying out, and you can't get extended wears straight away anyway). Millions of people manage fine with glasses, just needs some kind of persistance.

I get some money from grandparents, so if you say its £15 a month tops, i might be able to manage that. i dont know how much my opticians charge

Remember you have to pay for solutions too, so it's more than that.

I get mine from tesco's and as you can see that pair works out at like £4.67 a month which is pretty damn good.

wow im liking that!
But do you have to know your strength and whatever in order to buy them? And i guess i would have to ask my optician for that?

Yeah you need to know your prescription. Go to specsavers, you get a free month or so and an eye test. Since your a student the eye test will be free as well, so the lens price after the trial is all you need to pay  Don't let em talk you into getting it from them either, just say you'll come abck later or something :p: They sell mine at like double the price of Tesco's.

I don't know about anywhere else but the solutions are free from Specsavers (I have the monthleys and go on direct debit) and the woman said that I can come in and help myself to as much solutions as I like... :p:
The price of the lenses all depends on how bad your eyesight is, mine are £120 a pair, but that is every six months. It's well worth it IMO, my mum pays for them but it was her idea for me to get them. I love them, and feel a lot better and more confident without glasses.
