I have secured an interview at a care home that has not opened yet but will be at the end of the year. The interview does not have a position as of yet, but I have mentioned experience in the care sector and housekeeping work so this is a fantastic opportunity! However, last year I had an operation which resulted in being off work to recover, and have been issued a warning for it. If my employer writes my reference (should I get this job), will she mention my lack of attendance? Bearing in mind I provided a sick note at the time because I needed to recover. Despite this, it is on my record. I am worried about this! Or should I tell my circumstances to the interviewer? I do not want this to ruin my future employment over something I am unable to control.

If your previous employer does mention it, then almost certainly your next employer will ask you about it. Just give a clear, non-critical explanation and it should be OK. With relevant experience and a good application and a specific health event it is likely to be a non-issue.
