M271 - Motion on the allowance of female Bishops, TSR Liberal PartyThis House welcomes the General Synod's decision to allow woman to become Bishops in the Church of England.

A similar decision was rejected in 2012, due to the influence of a minority of traditionalist members.
This House believes this change is a land mark in both the Church of England's history and the progress of woman's equality in society.

I don't think this needs to be a motion as I doubt anyone is going to try and debate the matter.

    Aye, aye, aye.

Is not the Cof E disestablished in TSR land? So in a sense it is a private matter for the CofE. In any case, regardless of which Christian church you belong to, more unites Christians than divides them.

I abstain, largely pointless motion that could have been done as a statement.

Nay. Why should we welcome such an overdue decision from an antediluvian old boys' club? If the church- or any other religious institution- can have influence in state affairs e.g. in the House of Lords, why can the state not have allowed women bishops MUCH earlier via anti-sexism legislation?
