heya thanks peeps :smile: I am planning to go onto level 2 if I can afford it! (Though at uni which means learning some more signs as uni is north and I am a southerner! :s-smilie: )

Learning sign language is easy as pie really! You go to the local adult college normally and try and find BSL Intro (not level 1) there is an intro course which is half a year long then level 1 was also half a year for me then level 2 is a year at most places. You take the exam with the college and for introduction it is a continual assesment by your instructer with no exam as such, then for level 1 there is around a 10-15 minute exam where you describe a series of four pictures, answer questions in sign and do a roll play.

Very enjoyable and very interested (highly recommended) (wowow that sounded posh!) It is good fun :biggrin:

Congrats on passing level 1, I received my certificate to say I'd passed recently too.

I'm looking for a Level 2 course in Manchester (having passed in London, the transition to Northern sign should be fun!) but am having trouble finding one. It seems the CACDP have changed the curriculum for this year and many centres have dropped the course because of this. Are you finding the same or is it just me?

If you go to http://www.cacdp.org.uk/Map/Scripts/index.asp, you can search for places which offer sign language. I'm not convinced that they keep it up to date, but it's a good start.
:congrats:Cool, well done :yy::smile:
I really want to learn sign language... is it really really hard? Does it take up a lot of your time etc?

Most classes are 2 hours a week. It's not difficult, in my opinion; I was fine with the alphabet after a couple of classes and many signs represent what they mean or have a reason for being what they are. If you really want to learn it, go for it! It's good fun and useful! :smile:

We signed some christmas carols too! Bingo was a fond favourite for practising numbers as well.

Depends on where you go. I did my beginners course for £85 but that was years ago and my level 2 cost £150.

You may be able to do it for free. Go to your local college and ask.
