Don't know how to reflect on my work experience in my personal statement Watch

    • Thread Starter

    Hey Guys,
I recently underwent work experience for Occupational Therapy and I learnt so much during my time there that I am struggling to pick the most important things for me to reflect on. I've narrowed it down quite considerably but I can't fit it all into my personal statement given the small number of lines! So I'm trying to find out which aspects are the most important?
    1) The skills which contribute to an Occupational Therapist?
    2) The skills important to building a patient rapport (with example)
    3) The importance of confidentiality
    4) The differences in patient need despite similar/same conditions (also with examples)
    5) What I did in the placement
    6) The role of OT's?

I'm finding it difficult to put all of this in my personal statement amongst everything else i.e. volunteer work, introduction, conclusion, EC's etc. I should also mention that this experience was with 2 work experience placements, so I also need to fit that all in?
    Any advice?
    Thank You

I think you should briefly explain your role and what you did- depeding on your writing style, you could mention then relate that to confidentiality
'i am able to be confidential', 'i had to use confidentiality' .. any sentence that mentions that would do

then maybe mention your EC and underneath you could use phrases like 'these activities' 'doing this' or something similar that will group everything you did [including work exp] - to then say what skills you have obtained how you will use them
I was told not to mention the skills you obtained particularly in work experience but instead demonstrate your skills through things you have done? So many people are telling me different things, I'm so confused O.O

No, do not say anything like 'i got this skills from work experience'
    but rather
you're meant to say 'these skills were used during work experience'

'i was able to communicate with ....successfully'
    or something like that
OK thank you and you think that's the most important thing I should reflect on the skills I observed the OT's using during work experience? I really want to include everything but that's so difficult because there's only a certain amount of lines to use up? Grr...
