It is far more thoughtful, the words have to be processed in your mind and for books in particular this makes it a very personal experience - we can each imagine our own worlds

    Reading for information?

With reading I can skim and look for important words which is harder to do than with audio and video

As above, it enables you to escape (If it's a well written story) and be transported to another world. I think part of the allure of reading is that, whilst everything is described on the page, you are free to picture it how you wish.

Plus it's relaxing and nice to just be lazy and read a book.

Escapism. It's just you in your own little world, you create everything, including voices etc. you can also read as quickly or slowly as you like, something not so easy with audio or video...

To be transported to other places in time, locations.
To see people's perspectives on certain events.
To be able to see a story through the emotions of the people in it.
To change someone's view on a certain topic.

To be able to tell powerful stories, images, to challenge points of view or engage learning through the ability to write (in all of the languages) and the ability to understand through speech and the written word.

You're in a completely different world when you're immersed in the story. It can help get things off your mind too.
