Do you see me as thick?

I just found out that im dyslexic, my primary and secondary school failed to pick up on it. I only found out when i got myself tested at university.
but i dont know what people will think of me, do people view dyslexic people as thick? When i mess up i dont know weather to say im dyslexic e.g there is a reason for my mistake or just keep quiet otherwise they will think im dum.

Should I hide it?

I knew someone dyslexic at my old school who was a genius at every subject he did and he never had to revise.

Sometimes he'd ask me what 4 times 3 is and then do some maths I couldn't understand, so I don't think dyslexia is a big problem for him.

No you shouldnt hide it! and just because your dyslexic doesnt make you thick.
You have got through your education ok as the schools didnt pick it up so why worry about it now.

Up to you. Some people just can't spell. I'm (very mildly) dyslexic and I'm fine. I feel no reason to tell people because it doesn't affect me really.
My teacher has it and he compensated by being being an arrogant prick and hitting on all the sixth form girls. he is alright though, just a lil bit of a stammer and spells americanisation as americanationisation lol
if you were dyslexic you couldnt be able to spell the word cos i know i cant (i coped and pasted it btw lol  )
Oh, and to answer the question in your thread title: no.

I wouldn't make it your catch phrase.

"Erm, no - we can't go and buy a TV, the shops are closed, it's 11.30pm"
"Shut up, I'm dyslexic ok!!"

It's like when people always made those stupid "your mum" jokes and someone would turn around and say "my mum's dead" - it put a downer on things.

I wouldn't make a big deal of it, don't be embarrassed either though.

did people view you as thick before you know were dyslexic? if not then they probably won't now... in fact my bf is dyslexic and it's only since being tested that he's had the support he needed because all his high school teachers just thought he was lazy (whereas he's actually really bright and tries hard)

it's "dyslexic"
dont be! my sister is and its very normal i think. lots of my friends have it and they are far far far from being thick! theyre lovely and fun and smart
i wouldnt lie about it
but if you feel uncomfortable telling people you are, then dont.
its nothing wierd!

You obviously know alot about it...or rather, you evidently know feck all about it if you think it turns someone into a drooling ignoramus incapable of turning out a well structured and grammatically correct paragraph. As the OP has himself shown, sometimes it is so mild it does not even register during primary school.

I was not diagnosed with dsypraxia until I was 14...it explained why I couldn't read until I was 9 :p:.

There is not one set of effects for dyslexia...it affects everyone differently.

I think it was invented to explain poor attainment through modern teaching methods...
