I just received my accommodation information and was really disappointed to find it wasn't what I wanted. I put catered as my main and number 1 priority but have been allocated Montague Burton.
So I wallowed, phoned accommodation services who told me little little and read about the hall. There is a ridiculous lack of communal areas there. The kitchens seem to be the most lively and socialable place for 450 students to be, and compared to the others that's just not good enough. "Your main focus will be the Students’ Union and the city" - it said.
So rather than moaning any further (cos I think i've done enough already) it makes sense for anyone who's going to Montague to have a thread so we can meet and greet and make things a little easier Feel free to post anything - your block, your name, your subject, any pics, it's up to you
"As for Montague Burton Adam and Jonesy pretty much covered it. I loved my time there mainly due to having a top Cell group - sorry I just can't help myself with these shameless plugs but it's true! Rooms are plenty big enough though you'd struggle to swing an oversized cat in one of them. Kitchen acts as the main communal area which isn't too bad if you just pop a tv in there! It's beautiful in the summer when everyone congregates outside for BBQs on the grass patch in the middle of the hall!"
"Monty-B is amazing. I was there last year and loved it. One thing I would recommend is getting along to the cell group, I found it was a good way to meet people and get invloved in CU. There'll be details of cell groups and stuff in the freshers tent but email addresses of leaders can be found on this website. One thing about Monty-B to be aware of is that you'll need 20p's for the washing machines so keep a few spare for when you need to do washing!"
Sounds alright to me!!
Apparently nearest supermarket is morrison's , but at least it's cheap eh?
I've got no idea how the room system works - I got G3.33 - any idea what it means?
Montague Burton have several events days throughout the year, where (in the Summer) you have a barbecue and bouncy castle (and alcohol all free). Well it's not free, you usually pay 15 quid or something at the start of the year and it covers the events for the whole year.
I found this on some 2005 stuff. We'll just have to wait and see huh
"I'm living there now.
Rooms all have sinks, you share in a flat of 5. All rooms have internet and you share shower, toilet (separate from each other) and kitchen.
It's divided into Blocks from A to N (no I block) you can access any of these blocks with your key, but not get into the actual flats. It's about 5 minutes walk from the parkinson building (the big white one) and add another 5 minutes into the centre of campus. It's about 20 minutes walk from town.
It can be sociable if you're willing to get out and meet people in your block and knock on flat doors. There's no communal areas to meet people; so it's down to you how much effort you put in (i know i should have put more effort in, in retrospect.)"
Just checked, there IS a flat number 0. Annoying thing is, if people ask where I am living, and I say flat zero, it's gonna sound like I'm being blatently rude and not wanting to give out my real location!
It's 0 because its underground! Well...theres like a trench infront of blocks e f and g and u go over a bridge thing to get in the door. So in line with the rest of the accommodation at Leeds, thats classed as the ground floor (floor 1). You have to go down some steps to get to flats 0.1 / 0.2 etc. So your window will either look into this trench, or if its the other side it will be like a ground floor flat since its built on a hill... I hope that makes sense.
