To be honest, just make the most of Year 9. SAT's don't mean much, just a government thing they do to look like they're always examining you, and more than likely they'd decide what sets you're in for English, Maths and Science.

Don't fret about them !

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT SATS....EVER

They are not on your CV, they wont be needed by your university, SATS are only for government/school tables!! Try your best as you always should but dont get upset if you dont get the best SATS levels. In 2 years when you do your gcses no1 will remember/care about them!!

BUT they will determine your sets usually but if u are normally very academic and have a slip up in the SATS the teachers wont suddenly drop you in the bottom set.

final words

DONT WORRY!!!!!!!!!!

I presume you're just going into year nine; last year you were in year eight? Anyway, if so- there isn't much point in worrying about them now, before you go back.

The SATs require very little preparation on your behalf- your teachers will probably set you papers in class, and tell you the kind of topics which will come up. You probably will also find you don't have to learn very many new things, most of the things which come up in the SATs are things you will already know from your previous years at school.

Don't worry too much about the SATs, like the others have mentioned; if you don't do as well as expected, it more shows that your teachers are perhaps not teaching you so well, rather than reflecting on your own ability. Your sets at school might change as a result of your results, but this even happens with end of year tests you do as well I assume.

Don't worry too much about them. Good luck with year nine!
Hey Kasim I just did my SATs this year

I was stressing about my exams but on the day wasn't nervous hehe

I spent my Easter hols revising for my Science ... I wish I didnt coz if I didnt do any revision I still would have got the same mark :frown: Tis basically common sense  Maths is easy and English ... well you cant exactly revise for it apart from reading through the set scenes

Dont worry about it ... I've come out with good marks (Maths - 8 - 119/150, Science - 7 - 119/150) and I only did revision for Science.

I'm still waiting for my English result btw  :p:

^^We didn't get our english results til ages after we got our maths/science but its because they take longer to mark. Well done with your results though and good luck for your english result!

OP
Our school didn't care about the SATs results so i didn't bother revising! They were soooo easy it was unreal. Don't worry about them - they don't count for anything and the GCSE courses you will be starting next year will be totally different to the style of the SATs exams.

Are you even doing your SATs this year?! If you are, it's agesss away! But good luck  Enjoy year 9 as well! It's the last year without proper coursework/revision.

As has already been said, do not stress about SATs. I think they should be scrapped; they just apply additional pressure to students in a school system already dominated by exams. I (like many) took external exams in Year 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13.

Plus, if schools are not getting English results back until August, what use are they for putting students into sets? I know if I were a teacher, I would prefer to use my judgment on a student's ability for set purposes rather than some external exam.

As in foundation or higher? No, not really. At our school they ignored the SATs results entirely and went on teacher assessments, and even then you could change groups quite easily with a bit of persuasion.

Pft, I got Level 6 for Science in Year 9 and I just came out of my GCSEs with A*A* for Double Science.
What a joke they were
Yay Brim, I've found a pre-Year 10!

*Cackles evilly*

omg people who are doing finals worry less than you!
Erm..Aren't the SATs in May? It' only August!

That's not too helpful, sorry. Well-just basic structured questions for Maths, fiction and non-fiction reading and writing tasks for English and science questions. Just make sure you've a vague idea of the stuff you covered the previous three years and you'll be fine.

I got good grades(7+, 8, 8) just by revising for science. Only thing you can do, really.

What kind of questions come up in the year 9 SAT'S paper?

For maths i would do some proof of fermat's "little" theorem, brush up on complex numbers and get revising those trig functions. As for Science, just work on nuclear fusion in the Sun and a logical explanation of String theory ... :p:

Basically, don't even bother worrying about the SATs because I can't ever remember anyone really caring. Go out and have fun because as everyone else has said they are stupidly simple and even if you find them challenging, they still don't mean anything.

BTW don't even try revising the things I suggested because they aren't on your SATs and they aren't going to be easy to understand
They aren't worth worrying about.

I came out with one of the highest marks in the country for English and my year (78/82), feel free to ask me anything about that. At the end of the day it means nothing towards your future, all they are for is to set you for GCSE.

It's september. You need to slow down a bit. It's ok, sats aren't you're worst nightmare. I got my results today:

English: 7
Maths: 8
Science: 7

Trust me, If I can do that, you can do that too.

Don't worry anyway, it's in 9 MONTHS! I studied for those less than a month before. Study like you should do, and work hard, but there is NO need to worry about them so early. School has just begun!

Don't worry, you'll do fine.

Our English are being remarked because our Writing paper levels were high 6's/7's but our reading papers were all level 4's
