I`m looking for a new desktop, as my current one is a relic (2009).

Thing is, I mostly use it for Mathematics, and have 2 major programs on it - Mathematica and Maple, which, apart from WORD and POWERPOINT, are basically all I use.

I wanted to ask you guys about detachables - what are they compared to desktops? are they less powerful? are they like tablets?

Also: What are I-pads like, and can you download My software onto them?

    thanks!

Most tablets and detachables (including iPad) run mobile OSes (iOS or Android). They will not run desktop/PC applications, and they are much less powerful.

The only detachable I know that runs a desktop OS is the Microsoft Surface Pro. It's very expensive, though.

I would just get a laptop.
