I'm starting my nursing course this September at Oxford Brookes and I was just wondering what the work load is like for a student nurse?I am expecting it to be quite a lot but how many contact hours do you have e.g. lectures and practicals a week etc. Also what type of work do you get set and how often?I would also like to know how much work do you have to do while you are on placement.

It's not too bad in first year. We had about 15/20 hours a week on average and then clinical skills for 2 hours a week in Semester 1. Often it's reading for the next weeks lectures or tutorial and then every so often you will get essays. We had 3 essays and 3 exams in first year, spread through the year. You will still probably have a similar amount of work when you're on placement as when you're not. I've found 2nd year has been harder in terms of workload and difficulty, I hope 3rd year isn't another step up!
