I already have a spreadsheet to record my finances, although at the moment it's just detailed bank transactions.

Adapted this from an old Business Studies coursework in about five minutes, do with it what you will. Plug some values in and it'll do the monthly/yearly calculations automatically.

waste of time... all u need to do is add up all ur outgoings uni wise...

so like

total loan + grant

- accommodation + tuition fees (if applicable)

divided by how many weeks your there

= spending money

if you have a job you can add on your job money

i use my job money to pay my phone contract... so after ^^^^ that calculation i do

wages

-

phone bill

= more spending money

more spending money + spending money

= £x per week

then i stick a big post it up with how much money per week i can spend...

that spreadsheet was ace - i was really up sh*t creek finance-wise (or so i thought), being £1000 overdrawn before i even start year 2...and having put all the loan payments into that, and my outgoings for accommodation i've actually got more money than i ever thought was possible.......

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!! +ve rep coming your way Dez!

Okay quick question, just been filling in the planner, and in the 'inflows' section at the top, it isn't adding on any of my input from the 'parental contributions' row or the 'savings' row ...... so the inflow total just comes up as the data i put in the loan row. This is obviously meaning that its not taking into account the extra income i've put into the other sections so all the calculations are wrong....is there something i need to do in order for it to add all the inflow section together? Wow soz v. confusing post, i apologise for both my lack of computer knowledge and clarity of writing!!

Reply 11

Apologies, I mucked up the calculations on it when altering the rows. Re-uploaded, I've also added employment and other inflows to the sheet now.

Reply 12

Thank you for that Dez.

I would like to add some more options on inflows and outflows.

can you tell me what to do in Excel ?

thanks

Reply 13

I think if you click on the cell below where you want to add a row, then click Add, row, on the menu at the top, you should be sorted....?

Reply 14

let me have it please.

also let me modify it too.

Reply 15

To unlock the sheet, go to the Tools menu => Protection => Unprotect sheet. It's designed to prevent accidental editing. If you want to add rows, make sure to update the calculations to reflect it.

Reply 16

Can I nick that for the wiki and stickies?

Reply 17

If you credit me for it, sure.

This is how I set mine out. I have an annual projection with all my incomings and outgoings and then I have a week by week thing that I can fill in as and when I want to.

I put a couple of rough figures in. I work better annually and weekly than monthly cause I always get paid termly and don't have much need for a monthly projectio.

wow, blissys looks quite complex!

One thing I can't stress enough, is that when doing these spreadsheets leave a LOT of leeway.

Unless you're really strict with yourself they won't be accurate.

eg. My balance should be 2.5k higher than it is atm :frown:

edit: I'll add mine up tomorrowish for those that are interested
