Isn't more for MMU students?

I'm going there  I haven't really heard of anyone going here this year, everyone seems to be going to Victoria Halls.

Yer but Manchester have messed up my application so they didn't give me any accommodation. It takes students from any uni and the music college etc

All I will say is Unite have a reputation, and £85 a week for the dinky room you get is not worth it at all.
Reply 5
I didn't think MSV was run by Unite. And iirc, it's all cheaper than £85 a week.
Reply 6
No it's not run by Unite. And mine is £67 a week.

i stayed there last year... it's in a good location but the place itself isn't that great. If you get good flatmates you should have a good time though. There are students from all the unis around there though, as well as some people who aren't students at all! Just remember to pester the staff if they don't get something sorted quickly!
Yeah, im moving in on the 9th. I hope i have good flat mates! Do most people have mixed sex flats??

What is it that you didn't like about it midnight? i've heard mixed reports about it, some people love it and then I've heard others say the rooms are rubbish etc.

I'm picking my keys up on the 9th and gonna actually move in on the 14th...first chance I can get all my stuff up there :p:

As to mixed sex flats, I put either on my form - I'm not fussed whether I'm with all girls or lads aswell. As long as I get on with them

I just thought the whole building was finished really badly. The walls are really thin so you could hear everything from the room next door, and the whole room shakes whenever you close a door. The staff there are really bad at doing there job and half the time when u have post they forget to put it on the list so it takes ages to find out that you have anything. the showers were awful too - the hot water ran out really quickly and you couldn't ajust the shower head so half the time the room got flooded. It was alright because i was with friends i guess. It's not all bad and i think some of the rooms are better than others, it's jsut luck. i hope you have a better time than i did there, they may have improved since last year!

ye iv heard alot of mixed reports bout the sv. i met a girl in a club whilst drunk who said it was really really good and that she absolutely loved it, others said it wasnt to good, i guess its jus your view of life! iv visited the show room and an actual room in there, n there pretty similar, the rooms r prety good sizes but its the kitchens thats small. the only thing il worry about is the whole getting on with my flat mates and that. im just hoping i hav something in common with atleast one and unless there are really really odd i should be ok! everyone excited? x x
Worst thing for me was the paper thin walls, you could hear your neighbour switch on/off their light switch for example. Also, as stated above, anybody opening or closing a door caused the entire doors to get sucked in/out, any slight slamming of a door reverberated throughout the whole flat. Anybody comes in late? You can hear every word at 3am in the morning...not the place for people who want a bit of privacy I tell you.

Kind of looks like a communist block/hospital too from the inside. I liked the location however, good to get to UMIST. Beware of the carpark, the second level is designed so that all cars get their undersides scraped

Yea totally agree with you smagib. I'm really excited, I wasn't expecting it to perfect and also when I've stopped at my mates who are at other unis it's pretty much the same - thin walls, being able to hear everything next door etc. Just hoping I get along with the people in my flat!!

xx
I'm moving there on the 16th, and i'm really excited. Just hoping that i get nice flatmates!!!
I'm a second year though, had my own place last year, so it's a bit of a regression. I've not heard of any 2nd years that are living there. I'm not bothered by peoples ages though really, i can get on with anyone.

I'm a second year as well xD And yeah, we really do seem in the minority...
Wanna hear a funny story and speaking of paper thin walls....as soon as i moved in today, i started unpacking with my rents and my only flat mate currently whos this chinese guy was shagging his gf next door...we were in histerics as we heard all the noise!!
Have fun with that for a year....! I was lucky in that my neighbour was a mate I moved in with so he was respectable in most ways, except for always letting his door slam (probably didn't realise it was annoying).

One of the worst things about the place is the walls. oh and moving out with the two main lifts to D off and hence having to either walk down from floor 8 or walk all the way to the alternative lifts and then back across. Thankfully I had already sent most my stuff home with my parents and that was just 1/3 of my stuff. About twice through the year the lifts were broken for my block, so that's 16 flights of stairs which isn't a lot of fun!

The paint on the walls is really bad for leaving marks too (£50 i think per wall with marks on) the blue chair things always break as do the desk chairs (reported on the MSV forum they have going last year, not had first had experience, didn't use either!).

We had 4 weeks without TV connections as they didn't try hard enough to fix the aerial.

Couple of the guys on the desk are really nice, a couple aren't and they make you feel bad for asking for your post etc. I emailed with any complaints rather than went through the front desk and got replies, including from the manager over the TV issue.

The cleaners don't do all the items that are stated they will do, at least not in our case. The kitchens get to subtropical temperatures a lot of the year lol - no ventilation. The internet connection is of a poor standard (slow and prevents the use of a lot of facilities).

Windows only opened 10cm or so due to chains!

I know it all sounds negative but it isn't that bad, i would live there again if i was forced to. Should I write some positives to give a better view?

It's got a good location, the security is very good, the washing facilities usually have spare capacity (only once the whole year did I have to wait), parts of it including the kitchen have a nice newish feel to it. They paid back my deposit promptly and do a nice little newsletter occasionally to keep you up to date. Beds are reasonable, as are the rooms. Shower was good in mine but others didn't have as good a time. The toilet and showers are separate and had a good fresh feel to them.
