Gym membership for LSE students

If you are going to the LSE and want cheap gym membership - read this:

Pru Health (a British private medical insurance provider) is offering 6 months free membership of a Cannons or Holmes Place Gym when you sign up for their medical insurance before the end of August.

My quote (which I presume is typical for a healthy 19 year old) is just under £20/month. Holmes Place membership normally costs £85/month.

It is not a 12 month contract - you can cancel the policy after using the cheap gym membership.

Furthermore, you have until the end of October to 'activate' your gym membership - so you can wait until you start at the LSE (although you would have to pay the premiums in the meantime).

And, even after the free membership finishes you can still get gym membership for a reduced rate of £25 a month - which even on top of the premium is less than the £85 they charge themselves.

HTH

(Oh, and if anyone is wondering: I do not work for Pru and that is not a referral link.)

Wow, that's a good deal, but I think I'll be squeezed for cash as it is rather than find another extra 20 quid a month. We'll have to see if I can get a well-paid part-time job first.

I really want to be in a decent gym for once. :frown:

You have to buy the insurance by August 31, though. Most of us won't be in London until mid-late September.

I know, but if anyone was planning on getting gym membership anyway it would be worth suffering the September payment - particularly as you don't have to activate the free gym membership until the end of October - from which point the "6 months" starts.
I remember reading somewhere on the LSESU site that LSE gym membership costs 90 pnds for students for a full year. not bad, eh?

Don't pay that insurance, I remember that last year Holmes had ridiculously low prices for students.
There's a gym at a hostel/hall of residence called International Students House, on Great Russell Street. It's £25/month for students and they're having a deal if you sign up now for even less.
Yeah LSE gym sucks, and like Londo says, places like Fitness First under the Waldorf always have great offers like sign up for one gym membership and your friend can have a free one (so each paying half the normal price). Just shop around when you get to London and find a gym that you like for a price you're willing to pay

Hey just been looking at London South Bank University Gym Membership and is very reasonable for NUS members. Just wondering if anyone knows how far it is from Bankside?

Just figured it out on Google Earth for you and it's just under 1 mile from Bankside to South Bank Uni's Sports Centre, so about 10/15 minute walk
thank you very much!
