Pub or Club?

Poll

pub or club?

So, which do you generally prefer going to when you like to go out with friends?

Personally I prefer the pub. It's really fun, especially country pubs, but pubs in cities I've been to are great also. It means you can actually talk to your mates and stuff without being knocked out by sensless club anthems. The clubs i've been to have been alright, but I much prefer to spend my money on going to the pub.

what about you? pub, club? discuss.

well, I love pubs. Great concept, nice place to meet up and chat. Good pub food, never goes a miss. They don't have that concept here.
However, I really love to dance, to dress up and let my hair down. Clubs are more of an occasion. So clubs are the thing for me.

Pub for an hour, club for eight.
Club: The ratio levels, although still rather crappy, from a lecherous bloke's point of view, are far better than those in pubs; pubs are cockfests, the only women about usually being on the wrong side of the bar, or the odd one or two every so often, who are definitely not there to be pulled; pubs just don't provide the atmosphere for pulling, and, let's face it, that's what most young guys go out to do. Also, clubs are open later, usually, meaning long, late sessions of drinking. Given the lower age of the average clubber, as compared to that of the average pubber, there are also a great proportion of people getting pis*ed, which makes a sometimes hardcore drinker such as myself feel better. I do appreciate the point about the more tolerable volume of the music (if, indeed, any is playing), though. Most girls prefer clubs, because it's all about dancing, for them; most young guys prefer clubs, because it's all about pulling, for them; simple as that.

Pubs are for old blokes who have given up trying to pull, or who're bored with their wives; or, perhaps, for clubbers who wish to have a couple of cheaper drinks, before moving on. Clubs are for younger people, who wish to have a good time, and to meet new people; I know under which category I fall.

If i had to choice out of those 2 id say pub, just prefer the atmosphere myself.

Much prefer going to gigs then either of those 2 , good bands, good atmoshphere and generally a real cool crowd of people
Yeah, most people go to a pub or bar before clubbing cos clubs don't usually open till later anyway so your just filling in time...

true true. but it depends which pubs you go to. i've been to quite a few in oxford and i've seen loadsa students there and the pubs were generally quite trendy, whereas my local is, yes, full of old men who still thinks it's all macho to leave the wife at home with the washing up while they talk about boring stuff.

aaand, i can't stand dancing. which you dont have to do in pubs.

Pubs. I drink for the pleasure of drinking - if I had a huge variety of alcohol at home there would be no need to go out with my friends.

Clubs have a pathetic variety of incredibly overpriced drinks; awful queues to get into the club, then a drink at the bar; irritating strobe lighting; a large portion of scumbag clientele looking for a fight; apathetic bouncers; junkies; a sweaty atmosphere; and unbearably loud trance/dance music. My idea of hell.

You go to the wrong clubs. It's all about drum'n'bass raves.
Nope. Its all about Hed Kandi! Funky house is where its at!
Both, simple as.

If you haven't been to the Pub you won't enjoy the club

I used to prefere the clubbing atmosphere for pulling, but now I dont drink, I go on the pull less, so I dont mind going to somewhere with a pool table ect.
The tavern for the ale and the wenches! LOL. Naw, I love the pub crawling alot better than clubbing. Clubs are okay, but as a rule the music is pish (IMO anyway). I like the traditional Irish folk they usually play in the pubs, it suits me much better than head banging house music. And you can actually have a decent conversation and nice food as well (Before you get very drunk then the quality of conversation drops dramaticly).
I think there needs to be a bar option, as that is where I would go with my friends, and thus sadly, I can't vote for anything :frown:

ah, ok. i dunno how to edit it, but yeah, bars sound cool- though i expect the drinks are club prices.

Plub - or, as it's more commonly known, a bar.

Generally pubs, however I have also found one or two nightclubs that would surpass the pub experience.

Unfortunately the places students usually go are like alcoholic supermarkets for perverts and arseholes with queues (I can't understand that at all) and vomit on the toilet floors. They are largely disgusting places.

Pubs all the way.

I like to walk out with my hearing intact, and having been able to chat to my friends instead of scream at them across the dance floor.
