Coincidentally, I was just talking about this kind of thing, and have been marvelling over the levels of enthusiasm many e-Bayers seem to have for tongue scrapers. I expect that diet changes would be more useful overall, but you could always investigate tongue-scraping if you think it could help.

Sounds painful. Probably isn't but it's just the combinations of the words tongue and scrape. Ouch.

I wonder if Reese Witherspoon gave permission to use her face to advertise tongue scrapers. lol

Why don't you just brush your tongue with a toothbrush? or a tongue brush ?

lack of nutrition. Eat a more balanced diet. Or it could be an infection of the throat

If you smoke that can make your tounge pritty horrible.

you need to clean your tongue when you brush your teeth. if you do it daily, it won't be disgusting and white. and tongue scrapers are good, they don't hurt at all.

yeah i used to have a browny/white colour on my tongue when i had tonsillitis

Some good advice here.

I began brushing my tongue about a month ago, so hopefully it will get better. I am also looking to improve my diet.

One problem though. The most disgusting area is right at the back. I don't know if this matters too much, but apparently this is where the bad breath happens. I try to brush it but I just can't, as I feel like gagging every time I do it. How do I reach these places?

Get yourself down to a pharmacist and check you don't have oral thrush. If it is you just need some daktarin oral gel.
And use mouthwash to wash out the area towards the back!

A pharmacist? Don't you mean a dentist or a GP?

I will buy some mouthwash, any particular brands recommended. How much is it? (I'll have to buy it myself since my mum doesn't let me use it - she says that it takes something off your teeth which coats them or something?)

If its only oral thrush then dont waste time going to see a doc or a dentist, they have more important things to be doing, i.e. seeing people with problems that cant be easily solved by over the counter remedies. If you go to see a pharmacist they will take one look and be able to tell you whether its oral thrush, or something to be seeing the dentist about.
Mouthwash, maybe try some corsodyl, great stuff but its around £3.

That's what I was just about to say! I've got that at the moment due to being given antibiotics after surgery on my mouth- it killed off the normal bacteria in my mouth leaving me susceptible to infection. I also read somewhere that excessive use of antibacterial mouthwash can cause thrush for the same reason. I went to the doctor and they gave me Nystan but it hasnt worked. Now I've got to try some lonzenges- I just hope it makes it go away. I know it's not due to bad diet etc cos I eat loads of fruit and veg and don't smoke. So annoyed!
