Anybody commuting to Huddersfield Uni?

Hi,

Is anyone ( current students also) commuting to uni? How is it working out for you? I live in Hull and am wondering if its viable for me to commute, its around 70 mins each way.
Thanks

I'm a new student starting this September and I'm planning to commute from Dewsbury. I'll have to get a bus and a train so I think it'll take me just over an hour each way. I've commuted to Huddersfield for work in the past so the time it will take hasn't put me off. Because compared to commuting whilst working full time, it seems to me that commuting while a student will be easier. Though I suppose it depends on how many contact hours your course has.

I will be commuting from Rotherham. Speaking to the uni it looks like I will be in two long days so will probably drive to the train station and get the train in.
I will be commuting from Manchester on the bus, about 2 hours each way!

Hi,

I am now gonna drive to the train station and get the direct train to Hudds. With my disabled person railcard it works out around £11 return...cheaper than my petrol! I just hope I dont find it too tiring, it's gonna be 2 long days!

I'll be commuting, but it's only a short distance. Is anyone going to the freshens week?

I doubt I will go, as a mature student Freshers doesn't really interest me, plus I haven't seen a decent line up as of yet, no bands ( perhaps I'm not looking properly!?).

I'm coming from Hull, there is a direct train straight to Hudds, takes about an hour so not too bad. I was gonna drive, but I went to the clearing day on Saturday and it cost me about £25 in petrol there and back, so cheaper on the train plus I don't have to pay to park at the station my end. I'm gonna be studying Food, Nutrition and Health. I'm currently at Hull uni, was about to go into my 2nd year of Biology, but I cant stay another minute, its shockingly s***!!
I emailed Hudds asking for a place, sent them emails containing my grades ect and they replied offering me a place. I also emailed Sheff and Leeds Met who also offered places, but I just fell in love with Huddersfield its such a lovely quiet place, I really like how the uni is right in the middle of the town centre aswell. What are you gonna be studying? :-)

Hi I'm doing social work, I applied to hull and was offered a place but the journey in the car to my interview was horrible and I wasn't too keen on the organisation or should I say lack of on interview day.
Really looking forward to getting started now. Train is about £10 and free parking at the station which is only 5 minutes from where I live. Roughly a hours trip x
The traffic into Huddersfield is busy and then you gave to park so I'm thinking train easier. X
Im going to be commuting from Sykehouse in Goole
hi guys i was just wondering does uni of huddersfield give you like a student railcard that’s free or do you pay to get onto trains?

Hi Anon,

A Railcard usually makes you eligible for 33% discount on your fare, so look at the current price for your tickets, and a railcard gets you a third off the price. These are not issued by the university either, but you can get for free with certain banks- i.e. Santander's student account comes with a free railcard for four years:

I'm not sure of any university that would pay to cover travel costs, students are typically self-reliant when it comes to attending university whether that's arranging accommodation to live near the university for your studies, or making your own arrangements when commuting.

Best wishes,
