well a cuzn of mine who lives in bham told me to avoid places like lozzels (where the bham riots happened) and handsworth.
The Uni isn't in Aston, it's in Birmingham City Centre and it seems to be fine. With all the stuff there is around, you won't really need to be going much further afield.

if u go to aston uni, the likeliness of u ending up in handsworth or lozells is next to zero. at night obviously there are fights in clubs etc just make sure u dont cause any trouble, be careful on streets, and always ALWAYS say sorry if u bump into a person in a club or even if they bump into you. u should get by without any fights

Its all fine but for saftey sake dont wander around alone at stupid o'clock.
Matthew Boulton College students can be a bit intimidating but they arent half as bad as they'd like to think so no one on campus either is going to pull a knife on you.

Birmingham like every major city has rough areas but the chances of you having to go to any of the rough areas are very slim. In your first year you are in the city centre and 2nd and final years are likely to be spent in erdington, which has a large student population and I don't know anyone who lived in erdington and experienced any problems.

From a night club point of view avoid broad street on a friday and saturday night coz that is where the louts head and also broad st at the weekend is a rip off.

I dont find MBC students intimidating at all, ive played Basketball on the court with probably 30 to 40 of them over the year, and didn't experience one problem. They couldn't understand why the Aston students were apprehensive.

aston itself is rough but the uni is in birmingham city centre not in aston.avoid broad street as many murders have taken place their over the years.just google it if u dont believe me

Broad street probably has the same mortality rate as any other popular nightspot in any city in the UK. I never saw any trouble in my frequest visits.
Reply 9
I wouldnt call it rough on my visits there, i have family who live very near by. THer are a lot lot worse in this country believe me.

Its the city center of the UK's 2nd largest city. Course its not going to be 100% crime free but worrying / spreading panic isint going to make it safer. The campus feels safe despite it being open, the uni security are a bunch of great guys, Ive always seen cops around (on both the streets and broad street always have them, even undercover ones). Travel in groups (esp after a night out)...always let someone know where your going..dont walk in shady alley ways etc.
There are places you shouldnt be at in the dead of the night say digbeth but thats really it.

Its worth the risk though check out the Carling Academy on a friday night, its amazing. Its just like a club, except you have about half a dozen bars, you never que yet 1000's of people are there, amazing amazing
CARLING ACADEMY WOO

N.B carling academy is just near londonderry and is the closest venue part from the guild.

I live in a suburb near the centre and you dont hear of much happening up there. As for the campus it feels quite safe, as I found out on a UCAS open day.

Ive really really wanted to go to carling academy, just really havent found people to go with because everyone would rather go clubbing :>.<:

As I learnt yesterday, Aston has the safest campus of any West Midlands University according to the local authorities.

Yeah, this song is about it:-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wU2xbO-tzTo

At night I walk this stinkin' street past the crazies on my block
And I see the same old faces and I hear that same old talk
And I'm searching for the latest thing, a break in this routine
I'm talkin' some new kicks, ones like you ain't never seen
This is home, this is Mean Street
(This is) Yes-ah home, the only one I know

An' we don't worry 'bout tomorrow 'cause we're sick of these four walls
Now what you think is nothin' might be somethin' after all
Now you know this ain't no through street, the end is dead ahead
The poor folks play for keeps down here, they're the living dead

Come on down, (Huh! Ow!) down (This is) to Mean Street
They're dancin' now, look! Out on Mean Street
Dance baby!

(Guitar Solo)

It's always here and now my friend, it ain't once upon a time
It's all over but the shouting, I come to take what's mine
We're searchin' for the latest thing, a break in this routine
Talkin' some new kicks, ones like you ain't never seen
. . . etc
