Buying a laptop can someone give advice to what i should look for?

So I looked around and tried to get my head around processor speed+type/RAM and the overly complicated specs of laptops and I'm still not sure so I'll list some of the major questions I have if anyone could answer them i'd be grateful

I get Intel core i5 < Intel core i7 but where does Intel pentium fit? Is it yay or nay
what about the AMD processor?
•ideal laptop screen size?
is windows > mac?
windows 7 or 8?
what's a Good processor speed? In Ghz
what is hard drive capacity? How much memory the laptop has or how much can be added? Also why does it have separate spec for memory and HDC?

That's about it I think..

I heard windows are more universal and macs are quite limited to programs and such..?
