According to medical physiology (Boron et al) beta adrenergic stimulates insulin secretion whereas alpha stimulation inhibits it. If adrenaline is primarly beta stimulation why would it inhibit insulin secretion? thanks

Adrenaline might be primary Beta stimulant (though I find no specific evidence in support of this) but for inhibition of insulin secretion, it acts on alpha adrenergics. That is why you get insulin secretion inhibition with adrenaline.
