For a long time, the ultimate challenge for an artist was considered to be portraying the human body. In early civilisation it was men's forms that were commonly used, but this changed a few hundred years ago. Many artists might consider themselves to be just representing the form as accurately as possible.
I've taken a few life-art classes with nude models and my experience, as well the experience of anyone else I know who's done it, is far from sexual. If you're doing right, the subject just becomes a series of angles and shadows, you're not even thinking of them as a person while you draw/paint. I'm sure some artists where lecherous and pervy but many just enjoy the challenge of a human body.

The fascination with the female form goes back years and years and years ago.

Saying all that I believe the human body is a work of art.

Nudity =/= pornography

It is possible to appreciate the aesthetics of the human body in a non-sexual way, not that there's anything wrong with appreciating the sexual aesthetics of consenting adults either.

I wouldn't say so. What's perverted about accurately drawing/painting/sculpting the human body?

Would it not make YOU the perverted one for focusing of the breasts instead of also noticing the same level of detail is used for the rest of the body?

I think some are, others are just painting as per the fashion of the day. Remember photography is only 150 or so years old.
