John Lewis first day?

So by some miracle or other, I managed to get a PT job at JL. My shift starts at 10:25 on Sunday, but I've had no contact regarding where/when to go. I guess I should probably turn up a bit early and go to the partners' entrance?
I'm probably overthinking it, but anyone else that works/has worked for JL, just wondering what your first day was like? Thanks!

Ah, ok. I applied online and did the application form and the values assessment (all applicants have to do that) and then I went to a group assessment, which was about an hour. We had to do a group activity and had a 1-1 interview. It was all fairly casual.

Hi I have a group interview in a couple of weeks, could you tell me what the general dress code was? And what you had to do. Thanks

Hey I used to work for John Lewis and I recently have just got back to the partnership after a successful group interview. Having had a few interviews with them, I would say Dress smartly, girls just a smart top and black trousers (no jeans). Boys tend to go all out and wear suits as it just looks that bit more professional. It totally depends on the store and role but you will usually have a 1 on 1 interview and a group task to complete, sometimes that you have to present back or sometimes they collect your work at the end. Don't worry, they are not trying to catch you out they just want to get to know how you respond to different situations!

Best advice - DONT PANIC! Just be yourself John Lewis admire honesty and like you to be your own person. If they like you they will hire you its as simple as that!

Best of luck I am sure you will do great!

Don't really have much to add to what creamyclowns has said (and very good advice it is) - dress smart, it's better to overdo it than under do it. A smart blouse and trousers/skirt, or a nice black dress that isn't too showy is good for girls, a smart shirt and trousers with a tie will be good for guys.
You'll most likely have to do at least one group exercise, and then be taken for a 1 to 1 interview. In the group exercise just make sure you get a word in, but don't dominate. Be confident, even if you're quaking inside!

Hi tomorrow is my first day in John Lewis and I have the same question! I don't even know what shall I do when I arrive there!
Do I need to wear the working clothes before I arrive or could I have somewhere to change my clothes in the staff room?
How much earlier shall I arrive before the contractual start of my work?
Where and how could I meet my line manager?
Will I get trained on the first day? etc.

To be honest I don't even have any clue of what my job is going to be like!
They should have sent me an email describing all the details above really, :frown:

I started a few weeks ago and I was just as stressed out about my first day. You arrive at the partners enterance in smart business dress. Basically if you're a guy wear a suit and if your a girl a plain black top, black trousers or skirt with tights and black flats. You should have lockers to leave your stuff in. The first day is induction where you get a tour and complete online training. You will be introduced to your manager and peers.

Thanks a lot I'm feeling much better now...

Yup there's usually a few other new starters but someone will be there to meet you. As for showing you how to work they usually throw you in at the deep end in terms of customer relations but it is easy once you get the hang of it.

I wasn't expected to know anything, it's something you pick up on the job.
