Ibs?

Hi,

Do any other TSR users have IBS?
I've just come home from working abroad for the last 3 months and I got quite ill (hence the fact I had to come back).
I've looked up my symptoms on NHS Direct and they all match.
Could I have suddenly developed it overnight? It started about a week ago, it's like I can have a meal and then suddenly I'll get really bad stabbing pains in my stomach and urgently need the loo. Then it's gone, until I eat again.
Can someone help me please, I'm reluctant to go to the docs as it says on NHS that to be diagnosed the symptoms have to have been happening for at least 12 weeks.

A doctor will only tell you to observe the symptoms for a few weeks as it could just be a stomach bug or something short term, it does sound like IBS but only a doctor could tell you for sure. For now keep an eye on it and try to identify triggers; nothings more embarrassing than talking to a doctor about bowl movements so unless your openly confident about doing such things, keeping an eye on what you eat and self medication (to relieve symptoms only, do not take IBS medication without a proper diagnosis) is probably your best option and only go to see a doctor if this doesn’t help.

IBS is not a diagnosis!!!... Doctors tell patients they have "IBS" but when patients have LONG TERM bowel problems and the doctor hasn't a clue why... This is why I have little faith in the set of symptoms for IBS you've read on NHS direct...

It sounds as though you have got food poisoning or a gastointestinal infection (infection of the gut)... Especially because you've just come back from abroad...

I recommend you go straight away to see your doctor and ignore ALL medical advice that you get from an internet forum (except mine of course ) ...

Is this you? The threads are right next to each other... maybe something in there will be of use.
