The pill

I just have a few questions about going on the pill.
What are people's experiences of going on the pill? Do you have any side effects? Did it help? I want to go on the pill because my periods are quite heavy, and painful, and sometimes I feel sick. Will going on the pill help these things, and stop them? If you are on the pill, do you still have a period once a month? Do I just go to my docs and say I would like to go on the pill, or do I tell her about my periods, and see what she sugests?

tell her about your periods because my doctor put me on pain killers first. She then put me on the combined pill, which helped with my periods (I still had periods once a month) that made me feel really sick all the time though. I've heard that for some other people it doesn't help with the pain and stuff, but best try it and see. The progesterone only pill has worked best for me as far as the whole period thing goes, but it's giving me pains in my chest which is a bit worrying so I might come of that. Those aren't common side effects though, it's more common to get mood swings or put on weight. But it's definitely worth trying. It might work really well for you.

hope you have more luck than me

you still have a period every month but u can work it that sometimes u can skip them which can be very convinient sometimes  but wouldnt do this all the time. the pill should help the things you mentioned but if u try it and it doesnt theres loads of different ones that have different amounts of hormone in so there should be one that works

Why is it whenever there's a thread about pills, Carl is one of the first to reply...

Just trying to help and point them to a thread dedicated it not sure if it helps but there's bundles of info on it.

Heh, wasn't doubting your wanting to help and you are useful, but was just something I noticed :p: usually boys steer clear of these threads.

Thanks for all your info guys, but I have 1 more ques. I'll be going to uni in Oct, and just had my last period, so should I go to my doc while I'm at home, or wait till I go to uni, and see a doc there?

Well you can start it whenever (if you don't start it on first day of your period then use condoms for 7 days) so go whenever you want to be protected from....

I don't want to go on the pill to be protected, because I'm not sleeping with anyone, Want to go on the pill to make my periods more bearable. So do people think I should wait until Uni or not?

Well the sooner you get on it, the sooner you'll see a difference. Obviously.

I wasn't seeing anyone when I first went on the pill but I told my doctor I wanted to go on it for contraception too. When I mentioned I had very painful periods he said there was other stuff I could do for that which I guess would just have been pain killers. All my friends, who are on the pill, advised I went on it as it really makes a difference to the pain. Just saying this in case your doctor is anything like mine.

u dont need any tests done to be able to get it (except blood pressure but thats not exactly a test) youl be able to get them on the same day u go to the doctors then u dont need to go back til u need more(unless u have bad symptoms obviously but its not exactly a likely case and anything to actually worry about). so its not like moving to uni or changing doctors will disrupt having to report back to ur doctor about anything so its probably easier to get them now instead of waiting til u join another doctors

i went to the docs about mine, he asked if i was using protection for sex, i said no.. but i didnt mention i wasn't sexually active. He never asked, he put me on the pill straight away, my symptoms are alot calmer now and i have a period for a few days.
