Why are Guardian readers so pretentious?

I'm no fan of the Daily Fail before I start. I just don't know how people on this site can rip on the Daily Mail and spare the Guardian. I've found Guardian readers to be absolutely insincere and snobbish. They think they are so progressive yet the readers are just as bad as readers of the Daily Mail. The sort of readers who claim they're so intelligent, yet resort to pathetic tactics when they disagree with what you said.

Don't get me started on the articles and journalists themselves.

What is so special about The Guardian? I just don't understand. I hate The Daily Mail, but why are people so soft on The Guardian?

The guardian is also incredibly anti British
I think the Guardian gets torn apart on here more than DM does. I think the only newspapers that don't get ripped into are the Telegraph and The Sun on TSR.

I think the reason that Guardian readers are so insufferable is because they *know* they are right. If you don't agree with their right on view of thinking, you are somehow beneath them, because, as they are the most liberal, they are therefore obviously, the most enlightened.

In reality, they are often the biggest *****. Everything in the "Daily Fail" is vile, evil and wrong, and reading about how prejudiced against a black, female, homosexual, transgender, one legged, Somali woman is prejudiced against, makes us realise how evil white working class people are.

The Daily Mail makes you hate the underclass (and prejudice against other people)

The Guardian makes you pity the underclass and resent and fear the 'poorly educated' working class, for how they resent the underclass.

One invites you to dislike the minority, one invites you to dislike the majority, both are wrong.

I dislike both, but I dislike the Guardian more, purely because it preaches that its all kind, at least the Daily Mail doesn't really hide the fact its a rag.

The Guardian doesn't have a pay wall; if I started harbouring feelings of resentment towards its readers, I would have no one left but the BBC to get my news from.

Agree 100%

The Daily Fail is more honest than the Guardian in that it doesn't hide the fact it's trash. I cannot stand the people who treat The Guardian like it's some sort of Academic journal.

Id pick the guardian over any other tabloid
The guardian is much better quality than the DM. No newspaper is perfect or without bias but the DM has been particularly bad for scaremongering, selective reporting of crime, inaccurate reporting of scientific issues, etc. The guardian hasn't.

The guardian articles are far more reliable for accuracy than anything in the mail, and they are often better referenced from what I see on the online version.

Really?

The Daily Mail is a newspaper that publishes articles. Their articles make things look like facts.

I certainly see no "our newspaper is full of misleading articles, scaremongering and selective reporting, so you should take it with a pinch of salt and check it against other sources" disclaimer on the Daily Mail newspaper or website.
Am I the only person who likes The Guardian?

To be fair there are some Guardian articles I like but most of it I absolutely dislike. The pretentious readers of the paper only make it more dislikeable. Maybe it's the situation that the community are even worse than the paper? I think it's more dislikable than the Daily Mail because people know what they're gonna get before they even read The Daily Mail paper/site. Some people even read the Daily Mail for giggles

Did you enjoy this little nugget? http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jul/22/thomas-the-tank-engine-children-parents

I've found Guardian readers tend to have a massive stick up their arse and an anti-conformist stance which has mutated into an anti-western stance.

I think the biggest hypocrisy is the fact that they claim to be tolerant and against sexism, homophobia etc. and yet anyone who says a word against Islam will be torn to shreds as a racist.

They tend to have a penchant for faux outrage and verbose. Sanctimony comes with the territory.

That doesn't surprise me in the least.

Are you implying I'm an anti conformist with a stick up my arse? :curious:

I'm implying it is a distinct possibility.

I read it  (the website anyway)

I don't think I am insincere and snobbish. :s-smilie:

Anyway, some of the stuff I read makes the guardian look properly centrist (which it is really being left of center)

Why shouldn't there be a mainstream vaguely left wing newspaper? God knows there is enough right wing ones.

Because they feel inadequate next to Times readers?
Remember that time a transgendered teacher killed herself after being slammed by the Daily Mail?

Yeah the DM is probably worse than the Guardian.
