what made you decide that in the end? I put them the other way around;-)

In the ned it was an extremeley close contest btw IC and Warwick, as both uni’s had their definite advantages and disadvantages.

IC obviously has a brilliant rep, and its teaching standards in chemistry are supposed to be extremely high according to league tables and all the stats. However I was sure that the IC wouldn’t be right for me and for the reason, that I would find it hard to learn properly and come out with the degree I want, as well as need at IC mainly due to its environment!

IC, although a nice place for some, has too much of a “push their students too hard to learn” atmosphere for me, especially when compared to other universities! Although I have got A’s in my AS exams so far and I am predicted A’s and B’s at A-level I am the first to admit that I am very lazy with regards to workload, in not completing homework, assignments or even completing coursework to deadline…and with the Imperial workload that has always been spoke about by former members of my sixth form that went IC, I am positive I would not have be able to cope, let alone enjoy my uni experience if I had put IC as my firm!

I know I sound like I’m purely speculating, but former pupils from my sixth form have stated the above about the massive workload, and the sometimes too studious atmosphere, to my teachers. One former pupil who was suppose to be a “genius” even had a breakdown in the 2nd year attributed to the stress of the IC workload!

On Monday I was still prepared half heartly to go to Imperial, denying these nagging reasons in my head due to on the most part, IC’s rep and the better set of references I would get if I went to IC instead of Warwick. Although I desperately wanted to go to Warwick because ever since I visited their to be honest I feel in love with the place! However it dawned on me that it wasn’t worth sacrificing going to a uni that I really really wanted to go to just for the sake of rep! So I decided to IC as my insurance and Warwick as my firm! And to add to my decision I plan after my degree to do a post-graduate, whether a masters (or more likely) pHD, and then I know where you get your degree from is nearly completely irrelevent to your future job prospects, especially if you do your pHD at a higher institution in the field such as IC, Cambridge, Bristol (for chemistry) etc…

Warwick is good, so don't worry. I would find it too isolated though.

Yeah...last summer when i was flicking through prospectuses I thought the last place I would end up would be a campus based uni...but I'm really glad I choose Warwick!

Might be going to imperial to do medicine. But like you Kuz, I think that the only reason behind my choice would be because I only want to go there because of its reputation. I have an offer from birmingham, and in all honesty I much prefered not only the people there but also the campus. Although b'ham is much lower down the league table than imp, I still think that in the end I might pick it. I guess I need someone to convince me that imp would be a better option. I have to say that hearing all these horror stories of breakdowns due to work overload isn't exactly encouraging!

I've been trying to decide between Imperial and Warwick for about
a month now. My top two university choices were JMC at IC and
MMath at Warwick.

The annoying thing was that I never got to visit Warwick.
But according to their website and most of the discussion here,
the new maths department should be very nice. And it has a good rep.
But then again, same goes for the computing department at IC.

However, the tought of going to live somewhere like Coventry
after the first year didn't really appeal to me at all. All of my friends
who have studied in UK (I'm an international student btw),
say that I should definately go study in London. Should be an amazing
place to live. Of course this depends on your personality.
But I like living in a big city, so..
So far I've lived in Frankfurt and Helsinki.

And a plus thing is that i got around 8 of my friends studying in
London and only one in Warwick. But then again, I'd probably be
making lots of friends anyhow so doesn't really make difference.
But it's always fun to hang around with old friends from "back in tha days"

Anyhow, I made my decision yesterday.. Imperial it is.
I'll start JMC this Autumn at IC (given I get the grades naturally).
Should be good, can't wait!

Don't mind the workload,
that's why I'm going to university - to get drowned in work!
There'll alwas be time for some serious partying, and what would
be a better place for that than London (excellent but expensive)
Is anyone heading to imperial to do biology here?

If you like Birmingham better, go there. When it comes to medicine, 'reputation' really isn't important, because a doctor is still a doctor at the end of the day. It's only if you want to do medical research that reputation might matter; besides, I think Birmingham's reputation is pretty good, actually.

The only reason I am worried about reputation is because I am an international student. I would like to work in the international community, like in WHO and so I guess reputation might be quite important. So I need to know if birmingham's reputation is internationally recognised because if I want to get to work in WHO I'll be competing with other international applicants so I need the best head start possible. That's why I'm finding it pretty difficult to sort out my priorities. B'ham = good social life, happy days but perhaps not reputable enough. Imperial = not that nice an atmosphere but excellent rep. Anyone got any ideas in light of this?

Sounds good, but with exams, results and the rest of it currently going on it all seems too far off to think about!
