im not too sure abt it having ammonia in there...is ammonia really bad for the hair??

Ammonia baaaaad. From what I understand, ammonia or peroxide are used in dyes to lift the cuticle so the colour can penetrate. Repeated applications can result in the cuticle scales not lying back down, so you get damage and stuff. You'd have to reapply this to deal with the regrowth anyway (otherwise you'd get a frizzy/curly/wavy top over straight hair), so yep, ammonia = bad.

Admittedly straightening your hair everyday wouldn't be much better - the amount of heat straighteners use actually boils water in your hair, causing the outside of the hair to burst and give you split ends and white breakage dots  Funfunfun.

try trustworthy or trusty

trustable sounds about right, but i'm pedantic checked and it isn't. (well technically it is but not in that context it is only, used in the finance world, like a trustee in a bank account, and i only found that on 1 online dict.)

on to the topic at hand

how is this different to the hair relaxer you get in orange tubs for afro hair?

Reply 44

Yeah I looked too and it is.

Reply 45

ok i was gonna more put 'more trustworthy' but couldnt be bothered to type it all out but then i have actually typed so much more out in explaining myself. and to be honest, the real reason is that i don't really care about grammar much on these forums :p:

Its different to other hair straightening kits because its the first one that uses japanese hair straightening technology....normally thats only done in certain hair salons and it costs over £200...

And the kit actually strengthens your hair by restoring selected bonds in your hair, leaving it more resistant to breakage and damage.

Surely there must be a difference between this kit and kits designed for African Caribbean hair, cos the Boots kit isn't suitable for African Caribbean hair...

Hello,

I have actually bought this and used it and it is absolutely brilliant!

I used it last Wednesday with the help of my bf. Was quite nervous about doing it but it was well worth it.

Before I had horrible curly dry hair that needed straightening every day, but since Wednesday I have had to run my straighteners through my hair once and that took about 30 seconds. You also have to not wash your hair for two days - which I did and although I thought I was going to find all my hair on the bottom of the shower there was nothing!!

It has made my hair so soft and shiny and have had loads of comments about how different I look now that I can wear my hair down.

I would absolutely recommend this to anyone - it has made my life so much easier - can now have a shower and my hair naturally dries straight, can get ready to go out in ten minutes instead of two hours.

I love it love it love it!!

Hiya,

That's the same problem I had before. I have layered thick hair and would spend about an hour straightening it before I went to bed - get up in the morning and it was like I hadn't bothered.

But now I can wash it - need to give it a quick straighten, no more than 5 mins (I can never blow dry my hair properly so is always a bit messy still) and then go to bed and get up in the morning and it's still straight. It's definatly worth it. And although it probably has damaged my hair I'm no longer using my straighteners on it everyday so that must balance it a bit

u know it says to wash n dry your hair, do u have to blowdry it or can u just let it dry naturally n then do the whole shabang? cos if i blow dry my hair, it will most definately not be straight and may defeat the whole point! especially in the later steps

If you are talking about the first step where you have to start with clean hair - I had washed mine the day before and just tied it up for work, so when I came to put the first lot of cream in it was like afro hair

When you put the first cream in just make sure you keep it as flat as possible and as straight as possible especially near the roots and do what it says and constantly try and flatten it out with your fingers.

does it matter if you get it on your scalp? im scared?

isn't there a bit where u dry and straighten it? does that have to be using a hair dryer? i need to read the instructions again!

Reply 56

I got a bit on my scalp but it didn't hurt - just try and be really careful though.

Yeah you also have to wash and dry it - I just really rough dried it cos thats just when you've put all the chemicals on. So mine was still afro but a lot smoother. So not straight at all. It's not straight til when you come to the end and wash and condition it then dry it. Even then I still rough dried it and it was very straight then, then just finished it with the straighteners in about 5 mins and it stayed like that for the next 3 days.

I've finally got brave enough to tie it up as well - it tells you to wait a week. And when I took it out last night there was a kink but it brushed straight out. Magic!!

i doen the strand test. seemed ok.

now to do teh actual thing. dont think ill have tiem before uni. goign to a wedding tomorrow and move on sunday!

Reply 58

I wouldn't try that myself, personally.
And plus its permenant so if you you like to style your hair loads with curls and waves its not gonna work as well I don't really know.
I think it should have been sem-pemenant because not everyone wants straight hair all the time. Well I don't anyway.

Reply 59

I've tried curling mine and it actually comes out nicer than before when scrunching it and tonging it, I also have a waver thing and it makes the waves a lot smoother and softer!!
