Ok I have a question. It says it's not suitable for highlighted hair. My hair WAS highlighted (bleached) and I coloured over it a month or so ago with a at home dye. My hairs in a pretty bad state, I went a few weeks ago to get it re highlighed as it's turned out a bit darker than i'd of liked however when she did the strand test on a piece she cut off and my hair more or less snapped so she said it was best not to do it.

My questions is (sorry for the waffling lol) is my hair likely to snap if I use this? as it's said it can't be used on highlighted hair and my hair isn't exactly in the best condition judging by the strand test using bleach.

Just reread your post and then ask yourself the question.

I'm shocked you're even considering it, given the state of your hair (as told).

When you have hair as curly as myn you would appreciate why i'm asking. The condition of my hair has improved ten fold since I had the strand test as a result of professional conditioning treatments, not using heated appliances etc etc.

You didn't say that last bit about it having improved...

I wouldn't do it to be honest - your hair is still basically highlighted and it must say you can't do it for a reason.

Can you do a strand test with the straightening kit? Or maybe ask your hairdresser for advice? Dunno. :-\

Yeah, sorry I should of mentioned it.

I guess you're right anyhow, probably best I leave it considering i'll probably end up bald if I do. My hair is the bane of my life..

Cheers for stating the obvious lol.

Haha baldness wouldn't be good.

Your hair looks very pretty on your profile picture though

I have 2 questions :
1, for long hair (about 4-5 inches longer than shoulder length) would one box do or should I get 2?

2, where in Boots do they sell it? I looked in the huge boots in Norwich with all the haircare products and i couldn't see it :s

Thanks!

Five pages and still no before and after pics?

I might buy it tomorrow but i'm still unsure. My hair is naturally wavy, if it dries naturally its just not nice and its started to split at the ends after me washing drying and straightening it atleast once a day

I like having my hair curly occasionally too though, can you still do this or not?! I have my hair straight 90% of the time so its not a HUGE issue but i'd hate for my hair to look the same all the time...

has anyone got any before and after pics? my friends used this, and her hair now looks amazing!! I may buy one after x mas.

Reply 89

I bought one yesterday and will be trying it next week...

Reply 90

I bought one yesterday because i'm sick of my hair taking 40 minutes to straighten. I'm too scared to try it though:redface:

Argh I want to try it! I can't get Yuko done 'cos my hair's bleached, but I might buy this kit and do a strand test. My hair's in pretty good condition at the moment, and I'd be ok with the condition being a bit worse if it meant that my hair stayed straight. Scared though!

i'm not complaining but...

why is it soo cheap?

seems scary...but its apparantly true

regular ones are like £70

i got one of these at the weekend and it says when straightening dont exceed 200 degrees. am i right in thinking GHD's heat up to about 265 or something? does anyone know if itl go terribly wrong if i use a higher heat. and does that mean u can never use more than 200 or is that just while it sets?

hey, I got one of those kits and used my GHD's all was fine with me.

Though I wouldn't reccomend the kit. It made it straighter for the first week maybe, and I was dead pleased, but after that it just went bck to normal, though was a lot more dried out than normal and I got loadza split ends....

Nothing to be afraid of though, I got pretty scared thinking about all the breaking bonds and the whole 'be carefull your hair is in a fragile state'... but in reality, no big deal I mean blowdrying your hair breaks and realigns all the bonds in your hair...

I bought this kit a month ago and took that long to pluck up the courage to use it.
My hair is fine and curly/frizzy when in damp atmospheres.
Its past my shoulders. Ive been using GHDs for a year and have noticed my hair breaking off at the ends. Ive weaned myself off them and my hair has improved a lot. After seeing this product in Boots I was intrigued.
I love the straight look but stopped using irons because of the damage they were causing.
However I still long for hair that doesnt look like Crystal Tips when Im caught in the rain or after swimming.
I read over 40 reviews before I took the plunge.
That was tonight.
I followed the instructions to the letter. I read them six times.
So far this is the result. It has lightened my dyed dark brown hair by about three shades.
My hair is bone dry. I mean really dry. It wasnt dry before.
The ends were straw like.
However this is the weird bit. No other review mentioned this.
You have to wash and dry your hair three times when applying this product. After rinsing out the straighteneing cream and blow drying my hair I couldnt get a brush or comb through it. It felt as if glue had been applied to my hair. As I used the hairdryer this seemed to disappear.
After neutralising you have to wash and dry again. The same thing happened. It really felt as if the hairdryer heat was melting this "glue". It felt sticky to the touch. I couldnt use a comb or brush this time either.I had to finger dry.
I did notice my hair was a hell of a lot less frizzy so it has worked in that sense. However that gluey bit is scary and unpleasant and as I said its made my hair really dry.
I dont think its necessarily damaged it but its dryer than it was.
I dont know if Id do it again. Probably not.

Dont use this if your hair is damaged. Just dont. Dry and damaged hair is not attractive even if it is straight. This will make your hair dryer than you can imagine. Let your hair recover and then try it. Also use really good professional products. Kerestase Resistance is so good. It will get your hair well on the road to recovery immediately.Im talking from experience. Good luck.

Hi,
Im a new member and i tried the boots straightening kit. It did seem to good to be true for the price and it was!

My hair is dry and has been coloured. I applied it in the mirror and within seconds it started literally DISSOLVING the ends of my hair, just eating it away from the ends upwards. And i have layers. It was the biggest mistake ever and i was in tears. I tried to trim the ends that i could but the ends i couldnt just looked like melted chewing gum hanging down. Total nightmare.

I wouldnt risk it personally as its a bit unpredictable whether its liable to do this to your hair or not especially if you hair is coloured.

Reply 98

Ziggysue especially, do not even go near the stuff. Thats why they say dont use on damaged hair coz it just dissolves your hair but mine is only dry and it was completely wrecked.
