Hi! I'm in my second year of college (Doing BTEC ext. Diploma E/E engineering) and I'm thinking about applying to Mechatronics myself.

I know it's a mixture of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering but I was wondering if there's anything you can tell me about the course?

Sure, you get 6 modules;

1 electronics which is practical (soldering, breadboards etc) and theoretical (lectures on components and general electrical principals)

2 programming which is using C language to do basic stuff (you don't need to know any programming beforehand)

3 maths is a mix between a level maths and a level further maths, quite tricky at times if you haven't done maths although there are great resources in Sheffield to help out

4 general engineering and professionalism and helping you use Matlab, a program which is similar to those used in lots of industry

5 systems engineering is analysing systems in the world and breaking them down (hard to explain)

6 is sort of a strategic thinking, logic sort of thing, also hard to explain.
