Hi Guys
I'm also quite old heheh, i'm 23 and will also be staying in Sherfield hall...it was just confirmed this morning. I will be doing a MSc in Developmental Psychopathology. I've also heard pretty good stuff about Sherfield (the fact that is like a little village/community) from friends of mine that were previously at Reading Univeristy so i'm looking forward to it! Any one else doing either undergraduate or postgraduate psychology course?

Welcome Sofia. Nice to have you with us. Lol, imagine what luck it would be for all of us to be together in one of the blocks.

Hurrah another one!
Welcome to the group :-)
Hey!!!
Thanx for the warm welcome!! It would be good luck if we were in the same block..who knows maybe some of us will!
Anyone know how safe it is around the uni (especilly sherfield hall) and reading in general. I had the impression it would be pretty quite and safe but i've figured otherwise since i had a look at the crime rates etc.
Reply 25
Well it depends on how the rates are determined and the areas that most of the crimes relate to. Also you should know what types of crimes, just to have a clear picture of things.

I lived just up the road from Sherfield for a year. No problems whatsoever.

wow i go away for a week and now there are loads of sherfielders!!!! oh joy!!
Thanx Djonma thats pretty much what i wanted to know.
Well the crime rates in Reading when i checked were well above the U.K. average. High rated offences included attack against a person, robbery, burglary etc.
Sorry for fussing over this guys....no i'm not obsessed with safety!Just a female concern....but i guess being in a hall were there is limited access it would be pretty safe!
Anw....when is everyone arriving at sherfield hall? I'm an EU student so i will probably be there on the 30th of September.

I'm moving on friday, 29th, so hopefully I'll get to see you early :-)

I'm a female and I never had any worries walking around the uni area, and the sherfield area. It's quite safe.
The crime rates are high because the bad bits of Reading are really bad and have a lot of race crime.

i could be moving in early too!!! woot woot pre freshers piss up?

We should definitely have a meetup then!

Though... will we get internet access before freshers week? If we move in and have no net access we won't be able to organise anything!

I don't know anything about parking - I don't drive, but I know I will be getting a spot for my boyfriend to park in, but I don't tend to follow normal rules :-)

Oh nd you will have net access from the beginning!
Reply 38
Yeah but, is that the beginning of freshers week, or when we move in?
I'm in before freshers week starts...

Just wondering when we get our IT usernames and passwords and stuff.

You will be issued with a LAN cable. It should just be in your room. Just plug that into your comp and voila: internet!
